Gymnastics Opens 2020 Season With Victory Over The Falcons, 194.875-193.325

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team claimed victory in its season-opener at Bowling Green State University Saturday, Jan. 11, with a final score of 194.875-193.325. The Green and White had five gymnasts see their first collegiate action in the victory.
"I am really proud of this team. They have been working really hard and tonight it showed." said Head Coach Katie Minasola "We started the meet strong on bars with four new routines in the lineup. We adapted well to some mistakes we made on vault and floor, in order to finish strong on beam. I am so proud of this team for starting off this season where we left off last year."
EMU started the day on bars as junior Jada Rondeau (Savage, Minn.-Central) led the way with a score of 9.850, tying her career-best on the apparatus. The Savage, Minn. native was followed by fellow classmate Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick), who earned a 9.800, helping Eastern Michigan to claim first and second place respectively. Sophomore Kara Roberts (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) also chipped in a score of 9.750, tying for third. Freshmen Arileyah Harris (Katy, Texas-Katy) and Hannah Hartung (Lincoln, Neb.-Lincoln East) both made their collegiate debut, and each tallied 9.700's. Eastern led after the first rotation 48.800-48.350.
Following bars, the Eagles moved to vault where senior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) hit a team-best 9.775, followed by Roberts at 9.725. The duo finished in third and fourth place, respectively. Junior Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and freshman Molly Parris (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson) claimed the fifth and sixth spot, both scoring 9.600.The Green and White ended the second rotation with a score of 97.150, ahead of the Falcons score of 96.500.
On floor, Dobronics was again the high-scorer, hitting a 9.850. Rondeau earned 9.800 and Roberts hit 9.775 in her first collegiate floor routine. Freshman Mickayla Stuckey (Union City, Ind.-Indiana Connections Academy) and junior Brianna Price (Kings Mountain, N.C.-Homeschool) both added scores of 9.575. EMU went into the final rotation with a narrow lead, 145.775-145.425.
Eastern saved its best for last, ending the meet on beam and scoring 49.100 to seal the victory. Sophomore Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) came up big, tying her career-high score of 9.875, which was good for a first place tie. Satler was followed by her cousin Dobronics, who scored 9.850 to claim third. Sophomore Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens) tied for fourth with a score of 9.825. Price scored a career-high of 9.775 as well.
In the all-around competition, Roberts and Rondeau tied for second place, scoring 38.925 behind BGSU's Jovanna East's 39.300.
