Conference-Best Six Players Land on Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team saw six of its student-athletes named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team the league office announced Monday, June 3. Seniors Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) and Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval), juniors Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne), Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community-University of Tampa) and Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford), and sophomore Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) each garnered the honor. For Guilleux, it was the third time she collected the honor, while Connelly picked up her second academic distinction from the conference.
A total of 38 student-athletes were named to the team from this past season. EMU led the conference with six student-athletes on the team, while Northern Illinois and Toledo finished just behind with five players represented.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Apiwatthanadol, who owns a 3.21 GPA in mathematics, averaged a 81.71 in 17 rounds played in 2018-19. She tied for 34th at the Shirley Spork Invitational with a 160 (79-81) and tied for 44th at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate with a 251 (85-86-80). The Bangkok, Thailand native placed 45th at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with a 19-over 163 (81-82) and Finished 61st at the MAC Fall Preview with a 244 (84-76-84).
An accounting major with a 3.87 GPA, Connelly played in nine tournaments, posting an average of 78.64. She fired a trio of rounds of par and closed with an even-par 72 to tie for 19th-place with a 228 (81-75-72) at the MAC Championships. The Waterville, Ohio product finished tied for 21st at the Perry Park Spring Fling with a 157 (78-79) and placed 22nd at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with an 11-over 155 (78-77). Connelly also tied for 23rd at the MAC Fall Preview with a 229 (72-75-82) and was 31st at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational with back-to-back 84s.
Guilleux, who graduated with a 3.47 GPA in finance, posted an average of 77.94 in 18 rounds during the season. She had a trio of top-20 showings, including finishing tied for 12th at the MAC Fall Preview with a 226 (70-77-79). The Saint Maur Des Fosse, France native was 16th at the Shirley Spork Invitational with a 154 (74-80) and took 19th-place at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate with a three-round total of 237 (79-79-79).
A criminology major with a 3.82 GPA, Lawson played in 16 rounds, posting an average of 80.00. She recorded her first career top-10 finish at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational when she shot a 151 (77-74) to finish tied for 10th. The LaSalle, Ontario native tied for 15th at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational with a 163 (81-82) and took 21st at the Perry Park Spring Fling with a 157 (75-82).
Sripatrprasite, who holds a 3.97 GPA in Arts and Entertainment Management, posted an average of 77.20 in all 10 tournaments. The Bangkok, Thailand product tied for eighth at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with a 150 (71-79) and also tied for eighth at the Rio Verde Invitational with a two-round tally of 148 (71-77). She finished 13th at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational with a 162 (86-76) and tied for 18th at the Shirley Spork Invitational with a 155 (80-75). Sripatrprasite totaled a 156 (80-76) to take 19th at the Perry Park Spring Fling and closed with a final round 71 to become the first Eagle since 2016 to post a round below-par at the MAC Championships.
A communication major with a 3.63 GPA, Stevenson recorded an average of 79.86 with 22 rounds played. She posted the first top-10 showing of her career at the Perry Park Spring Fling when she tied for fifth with a 152 (73-79). The Milford, Mich. native tied for 15th at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with a 153 (77-76) and placed 21st at the Shirley Spork Invitational with a 156 (79-77). Additionally, she finished 22nd at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational with a 166 (80-86) and was undefeated in four matches at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge.
