Celone Leads the Eagles at the Hawkeye Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) returned to his string of solid play Sunday, April 21, as he carded a three-round 212 to finish in a tie for 22nd-place at the Hawkeye Invitational on the par-71, 6,884-yard Finkbine Golf Course.
For Celone, it was his seventh top-25 showing of the year and the ninth of his career, as he pieced together rounds of 66, 75 and 71 for the top spot among EMU golfers. Celone's first round of 66 was tied for the 11th lowest single round in EMU history, while it was the 16th round of 66 ever fired by an EMU student-athlete. Overall, it was the lowest 18-hole mark by an Eagle since Tyler Lewis notched a 64 (-8) at the Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 26, 2018.
The Eagles moved up two spot to finish in 10th in a star-studded field with a 865 (283-295-287). The University of Iowa, ranked 43rd nationally, took home the tournament title at 43-under 809. The Hawkeyes' Matthew Walker and Alex Schaake shared medalist honors with a 14-under 199.
Senior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) and sophomore Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) tied for 34th with a 215. Junior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) placed 60th with a 223, while redshirt freshman Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) finished 69th with a 228 (73-80-75).
EMU now turns its attention to the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships at Club Walden in Aurora, Ohio, April 26-28.
