Men's Golf Ready for Rutherford Intercollegiate

Eagles to compete in the 43rd annual installment of the tournament
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team heads east to compete in the Rutherford Intercollegiate, April 13-14. The 54-hole event, hosted by Penn State University, will take place on the par-71, 7,219-yard PSU Blue Course.
The field consists of 13 teams, as the Eagles take on competitors from the University of Connecticut, Cornell University, the University of Dayton, Georgetown University, Loyola University (Md.), the University of Minnesota, Oakland University, Penn State University, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, West Virginia University, and the College of William & Mary.
Eastern Michigan most recently competed in the tournament last year, finishing fifth overall with a team score of 876 (293-284-299). Then-junior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) led the way for EMU, finishing tied for 14th individually with a three-over 216 (72-70-74). Then-freshman Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) and then-sophomore Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) added strong performances as well, sharing 31st-place with scores of 222 apiece.
Saturday will feature the first two rounds of the tournament, with the first round set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. The final round will be played Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m.
Representing the Eagles will be Breault, sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic), Collins, Sudinsky, and redshirt freshman Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park). Sophomore Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.- Otsego) will be in competition as an individual.
The Penn State Blue Course is a par-71 course and covers 7,219 yards. The renovated Blue Course hosted its first major amateur event in 2009, the Big Ten Conference Men's Golf Championship. With the updates and improvements made in 2007, the Blue Course now proudly sits with some of the top courses in the Big Ten. The Blue Course has hosted numerous events conducted by the USGA, FCWT, AJGA, IJGT, PGA Junior Series and the West Penn Golf Association.
