YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University baseball team is back on the diamond Wednesday, April 3, when it welcomes nearby Oakland University for a midweek game at Oestrike Stadium. The game, scheduled for 6 p.m., is the first of four-consecutive contests the Eagles will play in Ypsilanti. Following the Oakland game, Eastern will battle Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green State University in a three-game weekend series, Friday-Sunday, April 5-7.
Make sure to follow the games via Twitter and live stats, at @EMU_Baseball, and EMUEagles.com. Admission to Oestrike Stadium is free; Directions to the park can be found at EMUEagles.com.

Hitting a high note: After EMU tallied a single-game season high 14 hits en route to an 11-6 win over Concordia (Mich.), March 27, Eastern again notched 14 hits in its very next game, this time against Miami University, March 29. The 28 combined hits are the most in back-to-back games for the Eagles this season.

SIXTEEN STRONG: Although his team-high 14-game hitting streak came to an end at Miami, March 30, junior Zachary Owings has extended his on-base streak to 16 games after reaching base in each of three games against Miami University, March 29-31.
Owings has posted a .409 batting average (27-for-66), while pounding seven extra-base hits, and driving in 14 RBIs during the stretch, dating back to March 9, against Marshall.

TRIPLE TRACKER: While the Eastern offense has been strong in many categories throughout the season, its three-bagging efforts are especially noteworthy, both individually and as a collective unit. EMU ranks 23rd nationally in triples this season (third in MAC), and has two players ranked inside the top-40 individually. Ranking second nationally is Zachary Owings, whose five triples leads the EMU offense and ranks second in the MAC. Jeff Timko, a redshirt sophomore, ranks 39th nationally with three triples on the season, good for fourth in the MAC.

COOKIN' WITH HEAT: Sophomore Holden Cook has been an important addition to the EMU bullpen in 2019.  In his last three appearances, Cook has been impressive, tossing five innings of near-perfect baseball for the Green and White. Allowing just one earned run, Cook has racked up four strikeouts and held opposing batters to just a .222 batting average during his efforts, compiling a 1.80 ERA during the stretch.
WHAT A WEEK: An offensive force throughout 2019, junior Zachary Owings is coming off a week to remember, leading Eastern in its two wins over the University of Northwestern Ohio, March 26, and Concordia University, March 27, before putting together a strong three games at Miami, March 29-31. During the five-game stretch, Owings compiled a .500 batting average, going 11-for-22 at the plate with four extra-base hits, and eight RBIs.
In his best performance of the week, against Concordia, Owings blasted his first career grand slam, as part of a 3-for-4 hitting performance. In addition to his 11 hits, Owings tallied 18 total bases and zero strikeouts during the week. Owings currently ranks inside the Mid-American Conference's top-10 in six offensive categories, including hits, triples, and home runs, RBI, at-bats, and slugging percentage.

JONES IN THE ZONE: A game-changing player both at the dish and behind it, Nick Jones is in the midst of his best overall season as an Eagle. At the plate, Jones has compiled a .329 batting average and a .422 on-base percentage, racking up five extra-base hits and 14 RBIs along the way.
Conference play has brought out the best in Jones, who is hitting .360 in Eastern's six Mid-American Conference games this season. Most recently, Jones hit .461 (6-for-13), with two doubles, in a three-game conference set against Miami University, March 29-31.

ALL TIME VS OAKLAND: When Eastern takes the field at Oestrike Stadium, April 3, it will do so against a familiar foe. Located just 53 miles from Ypsilanti, Oakland University will trek to Oestrike Stadium for the 63rd all-time meeting between the two programs. A one-sided series in favor of the Green and White, EMU holds a 46-16 record over the Golden Grizzlies.
Most recently, the Eagles defeated OU, 11-8, in a nine-inning thriller at Oakland, May 8, 2018. Tied 8-8 in the sixth, Eastern scored five unanswered runs to take the game. Luke McGuire moved to a perfect 3-0 on the season with the win, while Thomas House picked up the save.

ALL ABOUT OESTRIKE: Named after legendary EMU baseball head coach Ron Oestrike, who led the Green and White from 1965-87, winning an NAIA national championship and four Mid-American Conference titles along the way, Oestrike Stadium is one of the best baseball facilities in the conference.
Opening in 1971, this year marks 49 years of play inside the park, where EMU holds a 532-382-2 all-time record. Since its opening, Eastern has compiled just 10 losing seasons at Oestrike, winning nearly 60 percent of its home games during the stretch.
With the capacity to hold 2,500 fans, Oestrike Stadium offers a fully-covered seating section, lawn-seating options, and full concessions, making it one of the best venues to enjoy a game in the MAC.

ON THE HORIZON: Following its single game against Oakland, April 3, Eastern welcomes Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green to Oestrike Stadium. The two schools will battle in a three-game weekend series, April 5-7.
The series will commence Friday, April 5, with a single game, slated to begin at 6 p.m., with games to follow Saturday, April 6, at 3 p.m., and Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m.
