EMU heads to the relays for the fifth straight season
RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team treks to the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University, March 29-30. The trip marks the fifth straight season the Eagles have competed at the event.
The Green and White have seen tremendous success at the Relays, most recently recording two personal-best performances in the 10,000m in the 2018 rendition of the event, March 30. Three Eagles competed at the Relays, as former Eagle Hlynur Andresson placed seventh overall with a top-collegiate time of 29:20.92, closely followed by fellow former EMU student-athlete Nick Raymond, who ran the distance event in a career-best 29:25.66 for 12th place. Rounding out the Eagles' efforts was then-senior Lahsene Bouchikhi, earning a 45th-place finish with a time of 30:22.75.
The Eagles come off a strong start to the outdoor season as the team saw seniors Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) and Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Hartley) take home event titles as the team competed at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech University, March 16. Both athletes took home Mid-American Conference Runner/Field Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts at the Invitational, as Underwood continued his success from the indoor season with a career-best outdoor 400m run, finishing in 46.85, while Hart snagged the Long Jump title with a leap clearing 7.15m.
Friday's events are set to begin at 9 a.m. with the 5000m, while Saturday's performances are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. For more information on the Eagles' upcoming competition, including live meet results and a complete meet schedule for the Raleigh Relays, visit the Men's Track and Field Schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
