RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – After a week's break from competition, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team returned to competition with success, as it opened its two-day stint at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University Friday, March 29.
The day saw EMU earn two event titles while also recording three top-10 program efforts in the 100m and 400m. Earning first place overall in their respective events were junior Terrell Posada (Naples, Fla.-Naples High) and senior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton), each recording career-best efforts in the 100m and 400m, respectively. Posada crossed the finish line with a time of 10.28 seconds, not only recording the fourth-best time ran in the event in Eastern Michigan history, but besting his 2019 Mid-American-Conference-best effort set at the Yellow Jacket Invitational by almost .4 seconds. Underwood ran the 400m in just 46 seconds, the fourth-fastest effort by an Eastern Michigan trackster and the top time ran by a conference athlete this season. Also recording a top-10 effort in EMU history was sophomore Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England), earning a second-place finish in the 400m with a top-collegiate time of 46.40.
Rounding out the Eagles' podium finishes were senior Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Jerome) and junior Carlos Sanchez Juan (Onil, Spain-Ies La Creueta), placing second and third in the pole vault and long jump, respectively. Both student-athletes recorded career-best efforts in their events, with Jacobs clearing 4.92m and Sanchez-Juan leaping 7.27m. Additionally, the Eagles' 1600m Sprint Medley Relay earned a fourth-place finish, crossing the finish line in 3:27.38.
Freshman Payne Wylie (Saskatchewan, Canada-Colonsay School) registered a top-collegiate performance on the 110m Hurdles, clearing the obstacles in 14.68 for a sixth-place finish. His efforts on the Hurdles are the sixth-best performance by a conference athlete in the 2019 outdoor campaign. Sophomore Owen Day (Ottowa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) earned his career-best performance in the 1500m, crossing the finish line in 3:46.48, almost seven seconds faster than his previous top time.
The Eagles continue competition at the Raleigh Relays Saturday, March 30, with the Javelin Throw scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. For more information on the Eagles, including live meet results and a complete meet schedule for the Raleigh Relays, visit the Men's Track and Field Schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
