Three Eagles Earn Program Top 10 Marks at GVSU Holiday Open

Eastern set a combined 19 personal bests

ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs saw three Eagles earn program top 10 marks as they opened their 2025-26 indoor season at the GVSU Holiday Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University, Friday, Dec. 6. Lena Korte earned spot No. 8 in the shot put with a second-place finish and 13.66m (44-09.75) throw, while Nicolette Lewis improved her top 10 mark in the weight throw from No.10 to No. 8 with a personal best toss of 16.75m (54-11.50), and Kayenn Mabin ran the No. 5 all-time with his win and personal best time in the 60m hurdles final (7.76).
The Eagles saw a combined total of 19 personal bests set while earning five combined event wins.
How it Happened – Women
In addition to Korte (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) and Lewis (Fairburn, Ga./Hoover) earning program top 10 marks, the women were highlighted by two event wins. Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) won the long jump with a leap of 5.93m (19-05.50). Clemetson also earned a second-place finish in the 60m hurdle finals with a time of 8.74.
The second event win came from the 4x400m relay team of Ajah Arscott (Plantation, Fla./Taravella), Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino), Liusmar Rivas Velasquez (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), and Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) as they finished with a time of 3:49.50.
Jordynn Young (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) had a strong collegiate debut with a second-place finish in the 60m finals (7.61).
Also earning top three finishes were Mariah Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake), with a third-place finish in the triple jump with an 11.96m (39-03.00) mark, and Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse) earning third place in the high jump with a 1.71m (5-07.25) clearance.
How it Happened – Men
The men were highlighted by Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) as he earned one of the three event wins on the men's side with his program No. 5 time in the 60m hurdles final.
Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) earned an event win in the 3,000m with a personal best time of 8:10.37. The third event win came from Andrew Azunque (Naples, Fla./First Baptist Academy), as he made his college debut taking first in the triple jump with a 14.27m (46-10.00) mark. Azunque also finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.97m (22-10.50).
Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) earned second place in the weight throw with a toss of 18.82m (61-09.00). Also earning a top three finish was Nicholas Kline (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa Hills) who finished third in the open mile with a personal best time of 4:19.76.
