Track & Field Ready for Wolverine Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will compete for the first time in 2026 at the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, at the U-M Indoor Track Building in Ann Arbor, Mich. Saturday, Jan. 10.

The meet will begin with field events at 10:30 a.m., running events begin at 11 a.m., and the meet will run through most of the day.

The Wolverine Invitational will mark the first of five total meets this season the Eagles will attend at Michigan, followed by the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, Jan. 17, the Michigan Invitational, Feb. 7, the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 20, and the Len Paddock Open, May 8.

Last Time at Wolverine Invitational
The Eastern women led the way with two first-place finishes and five top-three showings in total while the men posted one first-place finish and four top-three outings. The two teams combined to notch 40 personal-bests. Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) broke the indoor 300-meter school record with a time of 38.05, while Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) ran the ninth-fastest indoor 600-meter in program history, with a time of 1:19.25.

Mabin and McEachern: MAC Athletes of the Week
Kayenn Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) and Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) were named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Men's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, after their performances at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open, Dec. 5. Mabin earned the honor for the first time after winning the 60m hurdles final with a personal best and program No. 5 time of 7.76. McEachern also earned the honor for the first time as he placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 18.82m (61-09.00).

Last Time Out: At GVSU Holiday Open, Dec. 5
The Eagles started the 2025-26 season at the GVSU Holiday Open, Dec. 5. Three athletes earned program top 10 marks, as Kayenn Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) ran the No. 5 spot with his win and personal best time in the 60m hurdles final (7.76), Lena Korte (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) earned spot No. 8 in the shot put with a 13.66m (44-09.75) throw, and Nicolette Lewis (Fairburn, Ga./Hoover) improved her top 10 mark in the weight throw from No.10 to No. 8 with a personal best toss of 16.75m (54-11.50). Eastern saw a combined total of 19 personal bests set while earning two event wins on the women's side, and three event wins on the men's.

A Look Back: 2024-25 MAC Honors
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy), was named Most Valuable Performer in the outdoor season after scoring 38 points at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17. She became the 13th most valuable performer in program history and the first since Alsu Bogdanova in 2018.

The men's leaders include senior Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College), juniors Jeffery and Leland Godfrey (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral), and sophomore Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical).
