Mabin and McEachern Earn MAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors

Mabin holds the MAC’s fastest men’s 60m hurdles time while McEachern holds the MAC’s best men’s weight throw
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University track and field athletes Kayenn Mabin and Jake McEachern were named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Men's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) earned the honor for the first time after winning the 60m hurdles final with a personal best and program No. 5 time of 7.76 at the GVSU Holiday Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University, Dec. 5. Mabin's time leads the MAC and is currently fifth-best in the NCAA.
McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) also earned the honor for the first time as he placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 18.82m (61-09.00) at the GVSU Holiday Open, Dec. 5. McEachern's throw currently leads the MAC and ranks 30th in the NCAA. His second-place finish came with the first-place finisher, Michigan State University's Dalton DeBeau, ranking fourth in the Big Ten Conference and 27th nationally, with a 19.08m (62-07.25) toss.
The awards mark the first two of the season for Eastern, along with it being the first time receiving multiple in the same week since Gabe Singh and Saraiah Walkes (Manatee Country, Fla./The-Out-of-Door Academy) earned honors last outdoor season, April 15.
