Personal-Bests Lead Eagles through Day One of Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team began competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech University Friday, March 15, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Eagles started their 2019 outdoor season with three top-10 finishes in the hammer throw with all three student-athletes clearing career-best distances.

Sophomore Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) earned the Green and White's top finish, placing third overall with a distance of 54.50m in his first collegiate hammer throw competition. Following closely behind Stephenson was senior Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio-Medina), earning fifth with a heave of 49.45m. Rounding out the Eagles' day one competitors was sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) with a seventh-place effort of 49.25, besting his previous top performance by .36m.
