Eagles Win Big On Senior Night

The Green and White mark season-high score on Bars in win over Golden Flashes

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team closed out its regular season at home against Kent State University, March 15, by posting its season-high overall score on Senior Night, 196.025-193.900.
"Wow! What a night!" Head Coach Katie Minasola said. "The seniors had a great last meet in the Convocation Center. We hit 24 for 24 routines and it paid off. We were able to put it all together tonight and I am so proud of this team."
EMU started the night on vault, putting up a score of 48.750. Junior Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) led the way for the Green and White by putting up a 9.825, tying for first, and was followed by junior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), and senior Ciara Gresham (Shiloh, Ill.-Belleville), both hitting 9.750s and tying for third. Senior Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill.-Sacred Heart Classical Center) chipped in a score of 9.725.
Moving over to bars for the second rotation, the Eagles scored a season-high of 48.975. Sophomore Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) had another stellar performance, leading Eastern with a score of 9.875, finishing first. Sophomore Jada Rondeau (Noorwood Young American, Minn.-Central) tied her career-best of 9.850 and took second place, while Hultgren landed a new personal-best of 9.775, sliding into fourth. Dobronics and senior Carly Clark (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) contributed a 9.750 and 9.725, respectively.
Eastern entered the third rotation on beam with the lead over Kent State, 97.725-97.200, with 49.075 on the apparatus, tying its season-high at Bowling Green State University, Jan. 31. Freshman Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens) and Rondeau both nailed 9.850's, both new career-highs, tying for first. Dobronics stuck a 9.825, taking third, while Hultgren and freshman Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) posted 9.775's and tied for fourth.
For the final rotation on the season, the Green and White went big on floor, hitting 49.225, and sealing the victory. Dobronics tied her personal-best of 9.900 for the second time this season, to take the first-place spot. Rondeau tied her career-high with a 9.875 for second place, and Satler hit a 9.850 for third as the Eagles swept floor.
Rondeau finished first in the all-around competition with a personal-best 39.275, edging her fellow Eagle, Dobronics who scored 39.225.
Eastern Michigan will travel to DeKalb, Ill. to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday, March 23, with the action starting at 2 p.m. CT
