MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team hits the road, traveling to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to take on Central Michigan University, Friday, Feb. 15.
EMU aims to keep its momentum rolling after a strong home win over Western Michigan University (194.850-193.725) that saw both junior Emili Dobronics and sophomore Jada Rondeau have career-best showings in all-around competition with 39.250 and 39.200 respectively.
FOLLOWING THE MEET: Fans can follow the meet against the Chippewas through the Eagles' live stats, found on the EMU gymnastics schedule page on EMUEagles.com, or watch the stream on ESPN3.
LAST TIME OUT: The Green and White remained perfect at home behind its best performance of the season, coming away with a win over Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan Friday night, Feb. 8. The Eagles bested the Broncos, 194.850-193.725, to defeat Western for the fifth straight time.
The Eagles saw career-bests from junior Emili Dobronics, and sophomores Jada Rondeau and Cortney Bezold. Dobronics' 9.875 on beam was her best performance on the apparatus, good for second place, while also hitting a career-best all-around score of 39.250 for first. Rondeau finished second in the all-around contest with a personal-best 39.200, and Bezold scored a 9.875 on bars for her new career-high and a win on the event.
IN RECENT HISTORY: Eastern has not fared well against Central Michigan in recent history, going 4-15 since 2009. The Eagles will look to turn the tides of that trend.
Most recently, EMU fell to CMU last season, 194.525-194.025. Then-sophomore Emili Dobronics posted a pair of 9.800s on bars and floor, finishing fourth and third, respectively. On beam, then-freshman Jada Rondeau added a score of 9.825.
BATTLE-TESTED TANDUM: Junior Emili Dobronics and sophomore Jada Rondeau have stirred up trouble in the all-around competition this year, finishing first and second for the third time this season against Western Michigan Feb. 8. The first two instances were at the NIU Triangular, Jan. 18, and against Ball State, Jan. 24.
Dobronics and Rondeau hit career-high all-around scores versus WMU, finishing with 39.250 and 39.200, respectively.
Rondeau's 39.200 is the second-time the Noorwood Young America, Minn. native has bested herself this season for a personal-high on all-around.
FRESHMAN FIRSTS: Another freshman saw action for the first time, Feb. 8, against Western Michigan. Carly Kosanovich is the fourth freshman this season to compete for the Eagles, and is accompanied by Caitlin Satler, Shannon Gregory, and Charlotte Reynolds.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Green and White continue on the road at the George Washington Triangular, Friday, Feb. 22. The Eagles will compete against host-George Washington University and Towson University with the action beginning at 7p.m.
EMU encountered both the Colonials and the Tigers on separate dates in the 2018 season, resulting in a 1-1 record. EMU bested TU 196.00-193.075, while falling to GWU in a close meet, 196.375-196.225.
