NOTRE DAME, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team started off competition at the prestigious Meyo Invitational Friday, Feb. 1, inside the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The first day of competition saw junior Terrell Posada (Naples, Fla.-Naples) record the fastest 60m dash time by a Mid-American Conference student-athlete this season, finishing second-overall in the preliminary heats with a time of 6.80.
The Green and White also saw two top-three conference efforts on the field side. Senior Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Jerome) cleared 4.90m in the pole vault for a fifth-place finish. It was not only his personal best performance, but his vault tied for the third-best height cleared in the MAC this season. Additionally, senior Nick Herbert (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern) not only earned a third-place finish with his personal best effort in the triple jump, clearing 15.09m, but recorded the second-furthest clearance by a conference athlete in the 2018-19 indoor season.
On the track, junior Ian Suazo (Brooklyn, N.Y.-Westland) matched his career-best time in the 60m hurdles, finishing in just 8.06 seconds, the third-fastest time in the preliminary heats. His time still sits as third-fastest to clear the obstacles in the MAC.
The Eagles continue competition at the Meyo Invitational tomorrow, with running events beginning at 9:45 a.m. EMU will have athletes competing in the 400m, 800m, Mile, 3000m, High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put Events. Beginning at 2 p.m., the Invitational will have a live stream available for viewers at home.
