Eagles Continue 2019 Schedule at Meyo Invitational

The Eagles look to continue their history of success at Notre Dame Feb. 1-2

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team heads to Notre Dame, Ind. to participate in the prestigious Meyo Invitational, held on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, Feb. 1-2.  The Green and White is sending 33 student-athletes to compete against a field of athletes from 33 different universities and colleges at the annual event. 

The Eagles saw great success, especially in the mile and 3000m, at last season's invite, Feb. 2-3, 2018. Then-freshman Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) marked his personal best time in the mile with a 4:02.77 finish, good for second-place, while former Eagle Hlynur Andresson brought home an first-place finish with a time of 8:02.08 in the 3000m, his career-best performance that also broke the indoor Icelandic record in the event, previously set in 2007. 

Eastern is coming off a successful weekend as host of the Can-Am International, Jan. 26, held in Bowen Field House. The Eagles' first home meet in two years saw senior Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio- Bishop Hartley) snag two event titles in both the long and high jump, clearing 7.29m and 2.04m, respectively. Sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) etched his name into the the EMU record book as his as his mark of 19.02m in the weight throw secured the ninth-best heave in program history, and fifth-best mark in the Mid-American Conference this season. In the running events, freshman Payne Wylie (Saskatchewan, Canada-Colonsay School) earned the 60m hurdles title with a time of 8.11 in his Bowen Field House debut. The Saskatchewan, Canada native's effort marked the fifth-fastest time by a MAC athlete this year. 
 
The Meyo Invitational is a two-day meet, with events scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, and 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.  Friday begins with the women's long jump at 4 p.m., followed by the first running event at 4:30 p.m. Saturday kicks off on the track with the semifinal heats of the 60m hurdles at 9:45 a.m., followed by the women's Triple Jump at 10:30 a.m. For a complete schedule of the Meyo Invitational, click here
