Men's Track and Field Wraps Up SVSU Holiday Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team put the finishing touches on the SVSU Holiday Open Saturday, Dec. 7, inside the SVSU Fieldhouse. While most of the events were completed during the first day of the meet, Friday, Dec. 6, the final three stages of the men's heptathlon were scheduled to take place the next morning.

Junior Skyler Lester (Marietta, Ga.-Marietta) was EMU's sole representative in the heptathlon, earning a trio of top-three finishes Friday afternoon. He claimed third place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.20 seconds, before placing fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.46m. From there, Lester finished third in the shot put with a 12.35m heave, and also posted the third-best high jump at 1.95m. In all, Lester ended the opening day of the meet in fourth position with a score of 2,887 points.

Lester returned to action Saturday morning and finished in second place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.47, crossing the finish line just .05 seconds behind the leader. However, Lester did not place as highly in his final two events, as he ranked seventh in the pole vault with a 3.60m clearance, and 12th in the 1000m run at 3:07.70. After all seven events were completed, Lester amassed 4,854 points and concluded the meet in fourth place.

Eastern is scheduled to have an extended break from competition through the new year, as the program is set to continue its indoor slate with a short trip to Ann Arbor to compete in the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, Jan. 11, 2020.
