Volleyball Hits the Road for Pair of Must-Win Matches

MUNCIE, Ind./TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Mid-American Conference matches against Ball State, Friday, Nov. 15, and Toledo, Saturday, Nov. 16. Both matches, the final two regular season contests for the team, are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Fans can follow both matches using live stats, which are available through EMUEagles.com. The team's Twitter, @EMUVolleyball, will also provide in-match updates throughout both contests. Friday's match against the Cardinals will be broadcast on ESPN+.
WHERE WE STAND: If the Eagles hope to have a chance to repeat as MAC Tournament champions, they will need to play perfect volleyball in the final stretch of their season. With two matches left, the Eagles are on the outside looking in.
In order to finish inside the league's top-eight and advance to the conference tournament, EMU will need to sweep Ball State and Toledo, and have either Ohio, Buffalo, or Kent State get swept.
ALL-TIME VS. BALL STATE: Set to meet for the 78th time in their respective histories, the Cardinals of Ball State hold a commanding 51-26 all-time record over the Eagles of Eastern Michigan.
Most recently, Ball State defeated EMU, 3-2, in a match played in Ypsilanti, Oct. 12.
ALL-TIME VS. TOLEDO: US-23 neighbors Eastern Michigan and Toledo will clash on the volleyball court for the 75th time when they meet Saturday, Nov. 12. A dominant series in favor of the Eagles, EMU holds a 59-15 all-time record against the Rockets.

CAN'T STOP CAMILLE: Senior libero Camille Schomer had an impressive two-game weekend for the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team as it split a pair of road matches against Central Michigan, Nov. 7, and Kent State, Nov. 9. Perfect defensively, Schomer did not commit an error in the two matches, and added a combined 34 digs for the Eagles. She currently ranks eighth in the MAC in digs, (444) and has a 0.24 reception error per set average. Schomer leads EMU in digs this season. Her perfect defense helped EMU knock off first-place Central Michigan via a straight-set sweep.
HAUT FINISHING STRONG: Redshirt senior Cassie Haut turned in an impressive two match performance for Eastern Michigan in its matches against Central Michigan, Nov. 7, and Kent State, Nov. 9. Haut tallied a team-best 16 kills (5.33 per set), adding four digs, and hitting at an impressive .333 clip against CMU, a straight-set win for the Eagles. Haut also led the team with an unbelievable 17.0 points in the match. The sweep was the first for the Chippewas since September. Haut was just as impressive against Kent State, where she racked up 19 kills, eight digs, and three blocks. The Monroe, Mich. native compiled 38.0 points, 4.38 digs per set, and a .320 hitting percentage between the two matches. Haut currently ranks fourth in the MAC in kills, and third in the league in points.
DIGGIN' TAYLOR'S PLAY: Senior setter Riley Taylor continued to prove herself as one of the very best in the Mid-American Conference in her two-match performance against Central Michigan, Nov. 7, and Kent State, Nov. 9. The Indianapolis native paced EMU with 92 assists on the weekend, including 39 against CMU, a straight-set sweep over the MAC's first-place squad, and 53 against Kent State, the fifth time she has eclipsed the 50-assist mark this season. Taylor currently ranks sixth in the MAC in assists, and has recorded 30+ assists in eight of her last 10 matches. She averaged 11.5 assists per set in her two matches against CMU and Kent State, nearly 3.0 above her season average, while also contributing 2.38 digs per set.
BREAK OUT THE BROOMS: EMU picked up a critical MAC win over West Division rival Central Michigan, Nov. 7, doing so in perfect fashion, 3-0. The Eagles handed then-top seeded CMU its first straight-set loss since September. The sweep is the fifth of the season for EMU, and third in its last five matches.
ON THE HORIZON: Following its contests with Ball State and UT, EMU will await its fate for potential postseason play. If the Eagles earn a spot in the MAC Tournament, they will begin play on Nov. 21, at the Stroh Center, in Bowling Green, Ohio.
