Women's Cross Country Ready to Defend MAC Championship

The Eagles look to set a MAC record with their fifth straight conference title
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team is set to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championship Saturday, Nov. 2 in DeKalb, Ill. The Eagles are aiming to set a MAC record with their fifth conference championship in as many seasons.
At last year's meet, the Green and White recorded a final team score of 76 points. Graduate student Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) gained First-Team All-MAC honors for the second time in her career as she won the individual title with a time of 20:34.9. Cizmas became the sixth Eagle in program history, and fourth in the last five seasons, to capture the individual crown.
Meanwhile, recent graduate Sydney Meyers also earned first-team honors for the second time after placing fourth with a time of 20:44.9, while redshirt senior Emily Smith (Somerset, England-Wells Cathedral School) finished 13th and was named to the All-MAC Second Team. Additionally, junior Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead) and sophomores Olivia Chandler (Brighton, Mich.-Brighton), Emily DeLine (Newport, Mich.-Airport), Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy), and Kailtyn St. Bernard (Newport, Mich.-Jefferson) all raced at the 2018 MAC Championship in Toledo, Ohio, Oct. 27.
The Eagles wrapped up the regular season at the EMU Fall Classic at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich., Oct. 25. A trio of sophomores led the way for the Green and White in the 5K event, as St. Bernard, Seifert, and Chandler finished with times of 18:44.0, 18:52.5, and 19:03.1, respectively.
Freshman Linda Geissler (Weinheim, Germany-Werner-Heisenberg Gymnasium Weinheim) also finished in the top-50 at EMU's home meet with a career-best time of 19:39.0, while fellow freshman Lindsay Bush (North Olmsted, Ohio-Magnificat) clocked in at 20:03.7. Senior Abbigail Stemple (Mason, Ohio-William Mason) completed the regular season finale with a time of 21:12.4.
The MAC Championships will be hosted by Northern Illinois University at the North 40 Course, which is located on campus. The day will begin with the men's 8K race at 12 p.m. EDT, followed by the women's 6K race at 1 p.m. EDT.
