Cross Country Women Win Jenna Strong Fall Classic, Men Complete Princeton Fall Classic

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University cross country women won the Jenna Strong Fall Classic Friday, Oct. 17, in Wilmington, Ohio, with first and second-place finishes from Liv Hatch and Lucy Jones, respectively. The men's team competed in the Princeton Fall Classic in Princeton, N.J., finishing 23rd, along with having athletes compete at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic.

The Eagles' win was led by two top-ten finishes with Hatch (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), finishing in 18:04.0 (1st), followed by Lucy Jones (Haverhill, England/Normanhurst School), with a time of 18:29.8 (2nd). Next came Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran), in 19:27.4 (15th), Cara Weber (Union, Ky./Larry A. Ryle), in 19:29.6 (16th), and Kiera Hansen (Freeland, Mich./Freeland), in 20:09.4 (36th) to round out the scoring. The race had a total of 194 athletes compete.
The men's team also had Eagles compete in the Jenna Strong men's 8k. Nicholas Kline (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa Falls), ran a personal best time of 27:26.6 (55th), improving his previous 8k personal best from the George Dales Invite, Sept. 19, a time of 28:11.8. Kline was followed by Ben Mussen (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth), with a time of 28:28.3 (106th).
Princeton Fall Classic
The men were led by Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College), who ran the race in 24:11.6 (62nd), a personal best. He was followed by Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), with a time of 24:28.2 (109th). Next came Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix), in 24:43.5 (135th), Isaac Garcia (Greely, Colo./South County), in 24:45.2 (139th), and Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School), with a personal-best time of 25:11.5 (202nd) to round out the scoring.
Carson Vanderschaaf (Marquette, Mich./Marquette Senior) and Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes), both also ran personal best times. Vanderschaaf finished with a time of 25:47.8 (265th), and McCoy finished with a time of 26:00.8 (282nd). The race had a total of 31 teams and 336 athletes compete.
