The Falcons forced overtime with 20 seconds left in the match
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —The Eastern Michigan University soccer team (3-9-2, 2-4-0 MAC) was dropped in overtime by conference foe Bowling Green State University (8-4-2, 6-0-0 MAC), Sunday, Oct. 13 on a windy afternoon at Scicluna Field.
Just four minutes into the first half, redshirt junior Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) rifled a high shot that took a friendly BGSU bounce off the crossbar back into the hands of the Falcons' goalkeeper. Both teams took turns hitting the crossbar until junior Parys Kerr (Whitby, Ontario-Pickering) scored her first goal of the season after receiving a perfectly placed ball from junior Lindsey Shira (New Baltimore, Mich.-Anchor Bay).
For Shira, her assist marks her seventh point in the last four games (three goals, one assist).
Junior goalie Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) stood her ground early in the second half for the Eagles making two diving saves in the first ten minutes to keep the Falcons scoreless. Later, with 21 seconds remaining in the game, Bowling Green broke the seal ripping off a powerful strike on a free kick. In overtime, the falcons took advantage of a blocked clearance deep in EMU territory to capture the win.
Dunn finished the game with six saves, bringing her to 70 saves on the season.
Bowling Green out-shot EMU 22-to-16 and placed more shots on goal with nine-to-five.
The Green and White will travel to the state of Ohio this weekend as they square-off against Kent State, Oct. 18, and Ohio University, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
