YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
Redshirt senior Danielle Minott (Miami, Fla.- Miami Country (Syracuse)) tied a Convocation Center record with 43 points, but it was not enough to lift the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team past Mid-American Conference East Division favorite the University at Buffalo Wednesday night, Jan. 9. EMU (7-6, 0-2 MAC) led by three with less than a minute to go in regulation, but could not hold on as UB (9-4, 1-1 MAC) outlasted Eastern in overtime, 91-84.

A layup by redshirt sophomore Corrione Cardwell (Cleveland, Ohio- New Tech East) and a free throw by Minott gave Eastern a 76-73 edge with 29 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, but UB's Cierra Dillard found Hanna Hall for a corner three to knot the game at 76 all and force overtime where Minott hit a triple to reclaim the lead, 81-78, for EMU. Buffalo responded with a three of their own, a well-contested trey from Dillard, to even the score before the Bulls closed out the contest on a 13-3 run to hand the Eagles a seven-point setback.

In addition to her highlight-worthy offensive performance, Minott grabbed 12 rebounds to pick up the third double-double of her career, while also adding three steals, two blocks, and a pair of assists. She is just the second Eagle to record multiple 40-point games in an EMU career, joining Tavelyn James in the Eastern record book. Coincidentally, Minott's other 40-point game was also against Buffalo, Jan. 27, 2018, when she poured in a school record 44 points in another overtime loss.Additionally, the Miami, Fla. natives performance ties for the seventh-most points scored in a NCAA Division I game this season.

Joining Minott in double figures were redshirt sophomore Corrione Cardwell (Cleveland, Ohio- New Tech East) sophomore Autumn Hudson (Richwood, Ohio- North Union) had added 12 points each. Cardwell added six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Hudson's 12-point effort was a career-high, as the 6-foot-5 center knocked down 5-of-7 shots on the night.

The stat sheet reflected how tight the game truly was, as Buffalo narrowly outshot Eastern, 46.9 percent to 46.8 percent. The Eagles held the edge from beyond the three-point line, shooting 47.4 percent to the Bulls 39.1 percent from deep, as well as the charity stripe, 63.0 percent to 62.9 percent. Both teams finished the game with 12 assists, while EMU forced UB into 23 turnovers and coughrf the ball up 20 times itself.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Eagles went into break trailing the Bulls by three. Eastern was outshot in the first quarter, but was able to get into a grove in the second shooting 63.6 percent from the floor compared to the Bulls 38.9 percent.

Late into the third Eastern took a slim lead, 54-52, for the first time since the first quarter and continued to battle, shooting a solid 66.7 clip. The Green and White followed suit outscoring Buffalo 29 to 21 in the third quarter.

EMU battled throughout the fourth quarter, but was unable to pull away, allowing UB to tie the game at 76 with twenty seconds remaining. The Eagles could not get a final shot off, and the Bulls' desperation heave fell short, sending the game into overtime.

Buffalo jumped ahead in the extra session, but Eastern was rebounded and took a three-point lead with just over three minutes to play. The Eagles could not maintain the lead though, as the Bulls finished the game on a 13-3 run to outlast EMU, 91-84.

Eastern remains at home this weekend when it hosts in-state rival Western Michigan University Saturday, Jan. 12. Tipoff between the Eagles and Broncos is set for approximately 2:30 p.m. and will serve as the second leg of a doubleheader with the EMU men's basketball team.
