YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
In his last home meet as an Eagle, senior Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Hartley) led the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team as they excelled as hosts of the Can-Am International, Saturday, Jan. 26, inside Bowen Field House. The Columbus, Ohio native was the lone Eagle to notch two event titles in the Green and White's impressive performance in the friendly confines of its home turf for the first time in two years.

Additionally, sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) saw success at the meet, as his mark of 19.02m in the weight throw secured the ninth-best heave in program history, and fifth-best mark in the Mid-American Conference this season.

In the other top field finishes, senior Zach Purcilly (Troy, Mich.-Avondale) earned the top spot in the shot put, clearing 16.82m, while Hart's long and high jump victories cleared 7.29m and 2.04m, respectively. His long jump mark is the sixth-best clearance in the MAC this year, while his high jump matches the fourth-best conference mark.

On the track, freshman  Payne Wylie (Saskatchewan, Canada-Colonsay School) used his Bowen Field House debut to secure the 60m hurdles title for the Eagles, clearing the obstacles in just 8.11, the fifth-fastest time for a MAC athlete this season. Redshirt senior Melika Ghali (Toronto, Canada-Jarvis Collegiate Institute) earned the podium-topping effort in the mile, finishing in just 4:12.71, the sixth-fastest mile ran in the MAC this campaign. Rounding out the Eagles individual titles was sophomore Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England), whose 400m time of 48.84 also registered the fifth-best mark in the conference in 2018-19.

Throughout the day, EMU recorded seven top finishes, including securing the top spot on the podium in three track events and four field events.

As the first EMU home meet hosted in two years, the Eagles enjoyed hosting both American and Canadian Universities on their home turf. "We are certainly very happy and appreciative of the Universities that came to the Can-Am International," remarked Head Coach John Goodridge. "It was tremendous to have so many of our alumni come back and participate in the meet, and we are looking forward to making this a great annual event."

EMU has a short six-day hiatus until the team travels to Notre Dame, Ind., to compete in the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 1-2. More information on the Eagles' upcoming meets can be found on the Men's Track and Field schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
