Eagles to perform at home for the first time since 2016
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team returns to action Saturday, Jan. 26 as host of the Can-Am International inside the friendly confines of Bowen Field House. This will be the first time EMU has hosted a meet in nearly two years.
The event includes competitors from 11 American and Canadian universities including Mid-American Conference foes Bowling Green State University, the University at Buffalo, and Central Michigan University. Also in attendance will be the University of Detroit-Mercy, Oakland University, University of Michigan, and Grand Valley State University from Michigan and the University of Windsor, University of Western Ontario, University of Waterloo, York University, and McGill University from Canada.
The Green and White looks to build on an impressive performance at the Doug Hansen Open Jan. 18. The Eagles claimed eight event titles on the day, highlighted by claiming five of the possible six field event titles. Sophomore Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) cleared 18.72m to take the top spot in the weight throw, while junior Colin Etchen (Edgerton, Ohio- Edgerton) and senior Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio- Dublin Jerome) shared the pole vault event title by clearing 1.48m. Junior Terrell Posada (Naples, Fla.-Naples High) earned two top finishes on the track with career-best times of 6.83 in the 60m dash and 21.87 in the 200m.
In conjunction with the meet, Eastern Michigan's track and field programs are hosting a Back to Bowen alumni gathering. The event, which is free for EMU track and field alumni, is aimed at bringing former EMU student athletes back to their stomping grounds during the lone home meet of the season.
The Can-Am International is scheduled to begin with field events taking place at 9 a.m. followed by running events at 1 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 and parking outside the Field House is $10, to be paid in cash only. The live results link will be available on the men's track and field schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
