Men's Track and Field Prep for Doug Hansen Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team travels to University Center, Mich. Friday, Jan. 18, to participate in the Doug Hansen Open at Saginaw Valley State University.

The Eagles are coming off an impressive performance at the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 12. The day was highlighted by eight podium finishes, including senior Tyler Underwood's (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) meet-record 200m performance, earning the event title with a time of 21.49. Sophomore Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) also added a record-setting performance, clearing 19.16m in the weight throw for the eighth-best throw in EMU program history.

Eastern Michigan appeared at the Doug Hansen Open last season, Jan. 19, 2018. At the open, the Green and White captured eight event titles and set 19 personal records. On the track, EMU was led by then-freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) and then-sophomore Devonte Findlay's (Lauderhill, Fla.-Blanche Ely) podium-topping performances in the 200m and 60m hurdle events. Eastern also swept the jump events, as then-sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Hartley) and then-junior Nick Herbert (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern) earned the top finishes in the high jump and triple jump, respectively.

The meet at SVSU is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. with the high jump, followed by all other field events. Running events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The live results link will be available on the EMU Men's Track and Field schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
