Kaylin Williams became just the fourth Eagle to reach the 300-save mark
AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – A corner service from redshirt junior Kristin Nason (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson) set the stage for redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill's (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) game-winner in the 97th minute to secure the Eastern Michigan University soccer team's 1-nil win over the University of Akron Friday night, Sept. 28, at Cub Cadet Field.
Much like the first half, both sides created opportunities throughout the second period. The Green and White created a flurry of chances, especially in the final 15 minutes. Ripping shots of the crossbar and posts, Eastern Michigan found everywhere but the back of the net.
Akron countered a few times, but Williams and the Eagles answered every challenge to send the game into overtime tied, 0-0.
Playing in overtime for the first time this season, Eastern garnered a corner with just under four minutes on the clock. Nason delivered the service to the far post and McNeill headed it inside the post for the golden goal, giving EMU the 1-0 victory.
Week two of MAC play wraps up Sunday, Sept. 30, as the Green and White travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for a clash with the Bulls of the University at Buffalo. Game time from UB Stadium is slated for noon.
EMU (7-5-0, 2-1-0 MAC) gritted out a crucial conference win behind a three-save effort by senior keeper Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka). With a save in the 70th minute, her second of the match, Williams became just the fourth Eagle all-time to join the 300-save club.Since we know you want to watch it on 🔁...@kristinnason8 ➡️ @McneillSabrina #EMUEagles | #RaiseYourBar | #MACtion pic.twitter.com/416mF7lOtY

Eastern and Akron headed to the break tied, 0-0, but not for a lack of effort. EMU fired off eight shots in the opening period, putting two on frame, but could not break through as UA's Erin McKinney made two saves. On the other end of the pitch, Williams and the Eagle defense held the Zips to four shots and just on shot on target.🚨 MILESTONE ALERT 🚨
