The meet includes four programs ranked in the USTFCCCA top-30
JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team returns to action Friday, Sept. 21, when it takes part in the Battle In Beantown in Jamaica Plain, Mass., hosted by Boston College. It will be the first time EMU competes in the meet since the 2014 campaign.
None of the current roster experienced Eastern's last trip to Beantown, however, familiar names highlighted the team's 11th-place finish. Victoria Voronko led the Eagles, finishing seventh, with Sofie Gallein and recent graduate Jordann McDermitt crossing the finish line three seconds apart, placing 25th and 28th, respectively.
This weekend the Eagles will be tested against some of the top talent in the nation, as the pool includes four programs ranked in the top-30 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) latest poll released Tuesday, Sept. 18. The ranked programs include: Providence (No. 11), Syracuse (No. 22), Minnesota (No. 24), and Dartmouth (No. 27). Additionally, not only is Providence the highest ranked team nationally, but the Black Friars return as the reigning Battle In Beantown champions.
The 5k at Franklin Park is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Live results will be available by clicking here, or by following the link located on the women's cross country schedule page.
