EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished play Sunday, Sept. 16, at the 35th Annual Mary Fossum Invitational. The Eagles shot a final round 322, finishing the two-day event with a score of 956 (320-314-322) in 16th-place.
In a field that included seven teams from last year's NCAA Tournament, Virginia won with a tournament record seven-under-par 857 (281-290-286), topping host Michigan State (291-284-284= 859) by two strokes. Florida was the only other school in the 16-team field to shoot under par, taking third place at two-under-par 862 (289-285-288).
Sophomore Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand) led EMU with a 54-hole score of 235 (79-78-78) in 67th. Senior Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) finished tied for 71st at 238 (82-77-79), while junior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) was 74th with a 240 (78-77-85). Rounding out the scoring, junior Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) added a 248 (81-86-81) and senior Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) had a 248 (82-82-84).
MSU's Allyson Geer-Park and Virginia's Anna Redding tied for medalist honors with a tournament record at 9-under-par 207.
Head Coach Stephanie Jennings and the Eagles return to Ypsilanti to host the Second Annual Shirley Spork EMU Invitational, Oct. 8-9, at EagleCrest Golf Club.
