Women’s Golf Finishes Day One of Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The first day of competition at the Mary Fossum Invitational is in the books for Eastern Michigan University's women's golf team, as the Eagles turned in a team score of 634 (320-314) at Forest Akers West Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 15.
Eastern's 634 puts the team in 16th-place, trailing fellow Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois University by 14 strokes.
Junior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) turned in the top score for the Green and White, shooting 78 and 77 on the day for a 155. Sophomore Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand) went 79, 78 for EMU's second-best score of 157, while senior Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) turned in an 82, 77 for a 159.
Leading the way is the University of Virginia, who turned in a collective 571. The Cavaliers hold a three stroke lead over the University of Georgia and the University of Florida, both turning in scores of 574. Host Michigan State University sits in fourth place with a 575 score, two strokes ahead of Old Dominion University, who rounds out the top five at 575.
Sunday's final round will get underway at 9 a.m. Admission is free to spectators.
