Andresson Wins Gold in 3000S During the Second Day of MAC Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team finished out the second day of competition at the MAC Outdoor Championships Friday, May 11 in Buffalo, N.Y. EMU remains in second-place with 63 points, behind the University of Akron with 89 points.
A day after winning the 10,000m title, redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) brought home yet another gold medal in today's action, placing first in the 3000m steeplechase. Andresson put together an impressive performance, crossing the finish line in 8:58.15 to add a crucial 10 points to EMU's overall score.
Along with taking home an event title, the Eagles set themselves up for success with seven championship qualifying performances in the 100m dash, 400m dash, and 110m hurdles preliminaries.
EMU swept the top-three spots in the 400m dash preliminaries, led by freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) who took first with a time of 47.59. Finishing second and third was junior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) and redshirt senior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay), who clocked times of 47.76 and 47.91, respectively. The trio will look to repeat their dominant performance in tomorrow's championship round, which will take place at 1:20 p.m.
Moreover, EMU will send three sprinters to the 100m dash finals as well, as freshman Tyler Johnson (Dayton, Ohio-Stivers School for the Arts), senior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson), and sophomore Joshuwa Holloman (Auburn Hills, Mich.-Avondale) placed third, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Both runners in the 110m hurdles preliminary heats qualified to tomorrow's championship round, with sophomore Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla.-Blanche Ely) finishing second with a time of 14.20, and sophomore Ivan Suazo (Columbus, Ohio-Westland) placing sixth with a personal-best time of 14.46.
The final day of conference competition will get kicked off tomorrow morning at 11 a.m., starting with men's triple jump, women's high jump, and women's discus throw.
