Hillsdale Gina Relays Results Through Day Two
HILLSDALE, Mich. & PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team participated in its first day at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., as well as its second day of competition at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. Friday, April 27.
The 4x400 relay team stole the show in the Penn Relays, placing fifth with a blistering time of 3:09.97. Based on their top-nine finish, the squad consisting of redshirt senior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay), junior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton), sophomore Tyler Johnson (Dayton, Ohio-Stivers School for the Arts), and freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) qualified to tomorrow's championship invitational.
Redshirt junior Zach Purcilly (Troy, Mich.-Avondale) came away with the highest placement out of all Eagles at the Philadelphia-based meet, notching third in the shot put with a distance of 16.87m.
Meanwhile, Eastern had five performances in the Hillsdale Gina Relays serve as personal-records. In the running events, sophomores Sean Beckom (Saginaw, Mich.-Heritage) and Terrell Posada (Naples, Fla.-Naples High) each marked personal-bests in the 100m dash. Beckom placed third in the event with a time of 10.68, while Posada finished one place behind at fourth, finishing in 10.81. Beckom also set a personal-mark in the 200m, racing to his second third-place finish of the day with a time of 22.29.
The other two personal-records came in the hammer throw, with redshirt junior Austin Hazek (Medina, Ohio-Medina) and redshirt sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) setting new personal marks with throws of 49.32m and 48.89m, respectively. Additionally, senior Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio-Medina) took home bronze in the shot put after reaching a distance of 15.74m.
Eastern closes out both the Penn and Hillsdale Gina Relays tomorrow, with action in Philadelphia starting at 7 a.m. with the Olympic development men's 5k racewalk, and competition in Hillsdale commencing at 10 a.m. starting with women's pole vault.
