Eastern Closes Out Hillsdale Gina Relays and Penn Relays With Impressive Personal Performances

HILLSDALE, Mich. & PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team capped off an impressive weekend at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich. and the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. Saturday, April 28.
The Penn Relays saw Eastern compete in three relays and a couple of field events. After qualifying to today's 4x400 championship invitational with their time of 3:09.97 yesterday, the squad of redshirt senior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay), junior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton), sophomore Tyler Johnson (Dayton, Ohio-Stivers School for the Arts), and freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) clocked an even faster time of 3:07.71, placing seventh. Not only does that time surpass their mark from yesterday's preliminary race, it also serves as the seventh-fastest 4x400 time in program history.
Also climbing up the EMU ranks in today's installment of the Penn Relays was junior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron). Harkey had an impressive showing in the hammer throw, where he reached a personal-best distance of 57.22 to finish eighth in the meet, while moving himself up to fourth all-time in Eastern history.
Sophomore Alex Babits (Howell, Mich.-Howell) performed well as the lone EMU representative in the final day of the Hillsdale Gina Relays. There, Babits notched bronze in the pole vault with a personal-record height of 4.65m.
The Green and White has just one meet left on the regular-season slate, as they will compete in the Toledo Invite Friday, May 4, in Toledo, Ohio, before taking on the MAC Championships Thursday-Saturday, May 10-12, in Cleveland, Ohio.
