Career-Best Score Propels Celone at Kingsmill Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (EMUEagles.com) – A final round 69, propelled freshman Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) to a career day Tuesday, March 27, at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate. Not only was the final round the best of his young career, but it helped Celone notch a top-five showing with a three-day mark of 213 (74-70-69) on the par 70, 6,794 yard Kingsmill Resort River Course.
After an opening round 74, the Long Sault, Ontario native posted back-to-back scores of par-or-better. Meanwhile, the three-round 213 was a six stroke improvement over his previous standard of 219 (73-73-73) set at the Windon Memorial Classic, Oct. 8-9, 2017.
With the wind was blowing throughout the day and temperatures were in the 40, Eastern Michigan finished in sixth-place with an 878 (292-290-296). It marked the fifth-time this season that Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's crew had finished with an 880-or-lower.
Southern Illinois shot 285 in the final round to pick up the win. Utah Valley was four shots back, while Loyola (Md.) finished seven shots behind. Seton Hall and Old Dominion rounded out the top five. Peyton Wilhoit of SIU cared a 66 in the final round and was the medalist with a three-day score of 208, which was two shots under-par. Loyola's Brendan Peel and Brent Mogran of St. Bonaventure tied for second, three shots behind Wilhoit.
Junior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) finished in a tie for 24th with a 220 (70-73-77) to go along with a 223 (75-72-76) from freshman Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary). Sophomore Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) tied for 51st with a 225 (73-75-77) and senior Tyler Lewis (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon-Mott CC) was 90th with a three-round score of 232 (76-82-74).
