UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – After firing an opening round 293 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team turned in a 284 to finish the opening day with a cumulative score of 577 in sixth-place. The tournament is being hosted by Penn State University at the par-71, 7,183-yard PSU Blue Course.
Junior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) and freshman Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) reside inside the top-15 spots after firing 142 to sit in a 14th-place tie. Breault notched his sixth rounds of par-or-better this season with a second round 70 after opening with a 72. Meanwhile, it was also Collins' six round under-par with a 69 in round two after posting a 73.
Freshman Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) followed with a 147 (76-71) in a tie for 35th, while sophomore Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) is 38th after a 147 (74-74).
Senior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) posted a 150 (74-76) in a tie for 53rd. Taking part as an individual, senior Tyler Lewis (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon-Mott CC) shot a 149 (74-75) in a tie for 48th.
Penn State is atop the leaderboard with a 556 (280-276 with Oakland eight strokes off the pace with a 564 (274-290). OU's Marc Norton and PSU's Cole Miller are tied for first with a 135.
The final round gets going Sunday, April 15, at 8 a.m. with EMU paired with Seton Hall and Loyola.
