EMU VS. BALL STATE IN RECENT HISTORY: EMU holds a slight edge over BSU in the past decade, boasting a 7-4 record in the regular season since 2008. Most recently, Eastern bested Ball State, 195.950-194.225, in last year's competition, Feb. 24, which was held in Ypsilanti, Mich. Additionally, the last time the Eagles made the trek to Muncie, Ind., Jan. 24, 2016, the Green and White came out on top of Ball State, Bowling Green, and Illinois State in a quad meet, recording a 195.050.
Eastern comes into this weekend's action riding a five-meet win streak against the Cardinals during the regular season.
LAST TIME OUT: EMU picked up its first Mid-American Conference win of the season against Kent State University, Feb. 25. The 194.775-193.925 victory over the Golden Flashes serves as the first win in Kent, Ohio, for the Eagles in over 20 years.
The day was highlighted by EMU notching the two highest event scores of the season, as Eastern marked a 49.125 on floor and a 49.050 on vault. The two scores were also just the second and third time the Eagles surpassed a 49.000 this season. Additionally, the meet saw 11 performances which earned career-best scores, one of which being senior Jules Schwartz's score of 9.875 on vault, which saw her win EMU's lone event title. On the day, Schwartz notched a personal-best score in each event she participated in, also marking a 9.825 on floor, and a 9.775 on bars. Sophomore teammate Emili Dobronics also came away with an impressive personal-best on floor, posting the first 9.9 of her career and the first of any Eagle this season.
IMPROVEMENTS ON FLOOR: The Eagles have seen a boost in production on floor over the past five meets, boasting an average team score of 48.940 through the contests, compared to their 48.517 they held through the first three weeks of the season. The spark came in the team's first quad of 2018, when EMU marked a then season-high 48.900 at MSU, Jan. 27. Most recently, Eastern notched a 49.125 against Kent State, Feb. 25, which serves as the best event score of the season. Additionally, the Green and White notched a 49.025 against Illinois State, Feb. 15, which was the first time the team surpassed a 49.000 in any event this season.
LOOKING AHEAD: Following the meet against Ball State, EMU will participate in its second quad of the season Sunday, March 11, which will be hosted by Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. The competition pits Eastern up against Rutgers University, Lindenwood University, and quad-host Temple.
After the conclusion of the quad, the Eagles will have less than a week to prepare for Senior Day against in-state MAC rival, Western Michigan, March 16. The meet will also serve as the last competition of the regular season, as the MAC Championships will take place Saturday, March 24.
