KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team returns to Mid-American Conference competition Sunday, Feb. 25, as they take on Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Action against the Golden Flashes is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
The Eagles will look to pick up their first victory over a conference opponent this season after falling to Central Michigan University, Jan. 13, Bowling Green State University, Jan. 19, and Northern Illinois University, Feb. 9. Additionally, this meet serves as the first-of-three away from the Convocation Center, as the team will not compete at home until the last meet of the regular season when it takes on Western Michigan for Senior Day, March 16. Eastern has yet to pick up a victory on the road in 2018, holding an 0-3 record.

FOLLOWING THE MEET: Fans can follow the meet through live stats and a live stream offered by Kent State. Links can be found on the EMU gymnastics schedule page located on EMUEagles.com.

EMU VS. KENT STATE IN RECENT HISTORY: Kent State has held a significant advantage over the Eagles throughout the past 10 years, having built an 8-2 record in regular-season matchups against EMU since the 2008 season. Most recently, the Green and White pulled out a victory against the Golden Flashes, 195.750-195.550, last season inside the Convocation Center. However, Eastern has not fared well in meetings against KSU outside of Ypsilanti, having failed to be victorious in Kent, Ohio in over 20 years.

LAST TIME OUT: The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team earned its fourth win of the season with a 194.000-192.550 victory against Illinois State University Thursday, Feb. 15, in non-conference action at the Convocation Center. The Green and White marked its best event score of the year on floor, as well as the second best team score on bars. The 49.025 on floor also served as the first time EMU has eclipsed 49.000 this season. Additionally, Eastern took four of the five possible titles, including the all-around, where sophomore Emili Dobronics notched a new career-high with a 39.100.

IMPROVEMENTS ON FLOOR: The Eagles have seen a boost in production on floor over the past four meets, boasting an average team score of 48.893 through the contests, compared to their 48.517 they held through the first three weeks of the season. The spark came in the team's first quad of 2018, when EMU marked a then season-high 48.9 at MSU, Jan. 27. Most recently, Eastern notched a 49.025 against Illinois State, Feb. 15, which serves as a new season-high, as well as the first time the team has surpassed a 49.000 in any event this season.

LOOKING AHEAD: Eastern continues its road swing and conference slate when it squares off against Ball State Sunday, March 4, in Muncie, Ind. Following their meet against the Cardinals, the Eagles will compete in their second quad of the season as Temple hosts Eastern, Lindenwood, and Rutgers in Philadelphia, Pa. Sunday, March 11. Action at both the BSU dual and Temple quad is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
