BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team concluded the first day of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship Friday, Feb. 23, located in Bowling Green, Ohio, by taking two event titles. The Eagles go into tomorrow in second place with 41 points, behind Akron who holds the lead with 44.

EMU's lone individual event title of the day came in the 5000m, where redshirt senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich.-Mason) ran to a first-place finish with a time of 14:34.80. Teammate and fellow redshirt senior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium-Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) followed closely, as he took home silver, clocking in at 14:35.09.

Eastern's second event title of the day came courtesy of the distance medley relay crew. The squad made up of redshirt senior Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis.-River Falls), freshman Dennis Manyeah (Darby, Pa.-Pennwood), senior Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich.-Thomas J. Anderson), and redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) placed first with an impressive time of 10:03.09.

Sprinters redshirt senior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) and sophomore Tyler Johnson (Dayton, Ohio-Stivers School for the Arts) had strong showings in the first day of the conference title meet, as they each qualified for two different events apiece. Brown first ran to a 21.83 finishing time in the 200m to punch his first ticket, before running to a time of 48.79 in the 400m to advance to the finals. Johnson, along with senior teammate Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson), earned a spot in the 60m dash final tomorrow, while Johnson will be joining Brown in the 200m. Additionally, freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) paced the Eagles in the 400m, and will be alongside Brown in tomorrow's 400m championship race.

All three members of the 60m hurdles team also made the cut to tomorrow's festivities. Led by sophomore Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla.-Blanche Ely) who came in first for the preliminary race, EMU will also see the likes of junior Frank Douglas (Mansfield, Ohio-Madison Comprehensive) and sophomore Ivan Suazo (Columbus, Ohio-Westland) compete for medals in the event.

Although Brown will be competing for a couple medals in tomorrow's action, the Findlay, Ohio native got his first award of the conference championships today in the long jump, reaching a distance 7.44m to claim bronze in the event.

The Eagles finish out the conference championship tomorrow, Feb. 24, beginning at 10 a.m. with the heptathlon 60m hurdles. Field events pick back up at 11 a.m., while the running events are scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. with the men's mile run.
