ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field notched seven top-five finishes in the Silverston Invitational Friday, Feb. 16 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Additionally, senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) came away with the 5000m event title at the GVSU Tune Up in Allendale, Mich., with a time of 16:57.08.
One of EMU's best events of the day came in the form of the 600m, with sophomore Gianna Salzbrunn (North Aurora, Ill.-Montini Catholic) and junior Elisa Hendriksen (Howell, Mich.-Cosby) placing second and third with times of 1:48.11 and 1:48.88, respectively. As expected, the sprints crew also had a strong showing in the 60m dash, with sophomore Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga) and sophomore Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Jolliet West) notching fourth and fifth in the finals, respectively. Bourg was also one of two Eagles to earn a personal-best time, as she crossing the finish line in the 60m in 7.75. The other Eastern student-athlete to mark a personal-record was freshman Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead), running a 2:17.85 in the 800m. Senior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) also had an impressive day as the lone representative in the 60m hurdles, taking third place with a time of 8.76.
As for the field events senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) highlighted the crew with Eastern's only first-place finish in Ann Arbor, as the Latvia native marked a distance of 11.92m in the triple jump.
Action picks back up tomorrow as the Green and White's distance medley relay team competes at the Alex Wilson Invite in South Bend, Ind., with hopes to qualify for nationals.
