YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Playing through a fog delay that cut the tournament to just 36 holes, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team opened play at the Shirley Spork Invitational Monday, Oct. 8, at the par 72 6,176 yard EagleCrest Golf Club. EMU shot an 18-hole score of 310 to rank sixth with one round to go.
Freshman Green Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) led all Eagles on day one, carding a one-over 73 to tie for sixth while playing as an individual. Senior Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) is also inside the top-10 after shooting a two-over 74 to tie for ninth.
Junior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) sits tied for 21st with a first-round 78, while freshman Abby Livingston (Novi, Mich.-Novi), senior Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymogkhon School), and juniors Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community-University of Tampa) and Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) all fired first-round scores of 79 to tie for 25th. Rounding out the Eagles is sophomore Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) who ranks tied for 39th with an 80.
Bowling Green holds a five-stroke lead after a first-round 297 to top the team standings, while Cleveland State (302) and Western Michigan (304) follow in second and third-place, respectively. Oakland is slotted fourth (306) and Loyola (308) is in fifth, two strokes ahead of EMU.
EMU wraps up play at the Shirley Spork Invitational with the final round tomorrow, Oct. 9. A shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m.
