Soccer's Upset Bid Falls Short Against MAC-Leading BGSU

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team battled until the bitter end, but came up short against league-leading Bowling Green State University Sunday afternoon, Oct. 7, at a muddy Cochrane Stadium. Junior goalkeeper Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) turned in an outstanding performance, tying her career-high with eight saves in the setback.

After incredible saves on both ends kept the game scoreless into halftime, Eastern Michigan (7-8-0, 2-4-0 MAC) came out firing in the second frame. EMU put a flurry of shots on target, but could not find the back of the net to keep the 0-0 score intact.

A goal kick was won in the midfield by Bowling Green (8-3-2, 6-0-0 MAC) and immediately played through to an onrushing Nikki Cox who knocked one in off the far post to put BGSU up, 1-nil, in the 57th minute. Bowling Green's strike was the lone of the match, despite several chances by both teams in the final 30 minutes as EMU fell, 1-nil.

EMU returns to action Friday night, Oct. 12, when it travels to DeKalb, Ill. for a clash with Northern Illinois University. Game time is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
