The Eagles look to break records by claiming their ninth consecutive MAC title

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will take on the Mid-American Conference Championship Saturday, Oct. 27, in Toledo, Ohio. The Green and White is striving to accomplish a MAC-record ninth straight conference title and the Eagles' 23rd conference championship in program history.

Last year, EMU put up a team score of 27 points, the fourth-best score in MAC Championship history. Eastern now owns all of the top-four title race performances (2006-23, 2014-23, 2016-15, 2017-27).

The Eagles had five harriers finish within the top-10 a season ago, including Hlynur Andresson, who earned his first individual MAC title. This ensured that an EMU competitor has captured the individual crown in each of the last four years. Lahsene Bouchikhi garnered his fourth-straight First Team All-MAC honors, crossing the finish line as the runner-up at 24:32.8. Also earning First Team All-MAC honors were Abel Flores at 24:41.9, and then-sophomore Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) with a career-best time of 25:12.4. Mitch Lenneman finished seventh with a time of 24:46.0, moving up six places from his previous year's finish to earn Second Team All-MAC honors. Moreover, then-freshman Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusselfdorf) finished with a career-best time of 25:12.2, ultimately warranting MAC Freshman of the Year honors.

Eastern concluded its regular season, Oct. 19, at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. at the annual EMU Fall Classic. Freshman Joe Ingram (Cincinnati, Ohio-Anderson) led the way for the Eagles, finishing 27th at a time of 16:11.4, which was good enough for MAC Runner of the Week honors. Sophomore Hayelom Fitsum (Denver, Colo.-Denver School of Science and Technology) put up a personal-best 5k, coming in at 16:12.6, second for the Green and White.

Facing off against eight other MAC schools, three of the conference opponents enter the weekend ranked in the top-15 of the Great Lakes Region, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced in its latest poll, Oct. 16. Those three regional foes include No. 7 Miami, No. 12 Central Michigan, and No. 13 Bowling Green.

The MAC Championships will be hosted by the University of Toledo at the Ottawa Park Golf Course. The day begins at 11 a.m. with the women's race, and the men will follow shortly after at 12 p.m. Fans can follow along via live results by clicking here, or by following the link located on the schedule page of EMUEagles.com.
