Soccer's Comeback Comes up Short at Western Michigan

Eastern Michigan is now 8-9-0 on the season
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team's comeback came up short at Western Michigan University Sunday, Oct. 14, at the WMU Soccer Complex. Trailing by one at the half, Eastern (8-9-0, 3-5-0 MAC) even the score in the 52nd minute but were downed, 2-1, on an 81st minute strike by Western (11-5-0, 5-3-0 MAC).
Sophomore Parys Kerr (Whitby, Ontario-Pickering) tallied EMU's lone goal, while redshirt junior Kristin Nason (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson) redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) were credited with assists. Defensively, junior keeper Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) recorded four saves.
A set-piece goal in the opening minutes put Western Michigan up, 1-nil, but Eastern Michigan came back with an early tally in the second period. McNeill crossed a ball to the far side of the six, where Nason flicked it on to a charging Kerr in the middle of the box. Without any hesitation, Kerr volleyed a shot out of the reaching of WMU's keeper to even the score at 1-1 in the 52nd minute.
WMU reclaimed the lead in the 81st minute as Colleen McKay cut back inside the 18 and slotted a goal inside the far post.
Eastern Michigan rallied late but could not connect on its chances, falling 2-1.
Eastern Michigan closes out the regular season with three straight home matches, the first of which is slated for Thursday, Oct. 18, against Miami University. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
