AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore men's golfer Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) fired back-to-back rounds under-par and sits in fourth-place after the opening day of The Firestone Invitational, Oct. 1. Celone posted rounds of 70 and 69 for a two round total of 139, two strokes off the lead held by Winthrop's Ryan Tattan (69-68=137).
As a team, the Eagles carded an opening day score of 573 (286-287) while Ohio University holds down the top spot with a 36-hole tally of 564 (281-283) on the par 72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club-North Course.
Junior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) finished the day in a tie for 18th-place at 142 (73-69). Senior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) and sophomore Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) are four shots back in a tie for 41st with a 146. Rounding out the lineup, sophomore Tyler Rayman (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego) posted a 149 (73-76).
Redshirt freshman Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) managed rounds of 78 and 77 for an opening day tally of 155 as an individual.
Eastern Michigan will complete play at the Firestone Intercollegiate with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
