Celone Claims Runner-up Showing at Firestone Invite

Sophomore records his second top-five of the year as the Eagles tie for third

AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – It has been quite the fall for the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team. Tuesday's final round of the Firestone Invitational continued the squad's streak of exceptional play, as the team moved up three spots to finish tied for third-place with Ohio University on the par 72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club-North Course. The Eagles tallied a final round 286 to wrap up the event with a two-day total of 859 (286-287-286). The University of Akron won the tournament with a 857 (286-285-286), while Furman University was second with a 858 (286-285-287).
Altogether, Eastern's 54-hole tally ranks 13th in program history.
Sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) continued to shine for Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's crew, as he finished as the tournament's runner-up with a two-day score of seven-under 209 (70-69-70). It is the second top-five showing of the season for Celone, while he has posted eight of his nine rounds this fall at par-or-better.
Ohio's Zach Crawford won the event with a final round 68 to finish at 10-under 206 (69-69-68).
Junior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) picked up his third career top-10 showing with a 213 (73-69-71) in a tie for seventh. Senior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) notched his lowest round of the tournament to take 17th with a 216 (71-75-70). Sophomores Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) and Tyler Rayman (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego) rounded out the scoring for EMU with a 221 (72-74-75) and a 224 (73-76-75), respectively.
Redshirt freshman Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) tied for 84th while competing as an individual with a 237 (78-77-82).
Eastern Michigan will round out the fall, Oct. 14-15, at the Chatham Hills Collegiate in Westfield, Ind.
