EMU looks to remain undefeated against the Warriors
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team takes a break from Mid-American Conference action when it travels to Detroit, Mich. to take on the Warriors of Wayne State University Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Eagles are coming off a blazing, 149-121, win over MAC foe Ball State University last Saturday, Jan. 13. Eastern won almost every event en route to the victory as senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) paced EMU with three individual event wins, including the 1000 and 50 freestyle, both of which he has not raced in this season. The senior ultimately earned MAC Co-Swimmer of the Week for his efforts against the Cardinals. Junior Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate) and sophomores Matan Segal (Lehavim, Israel-Hof HaSharon) and Matthew Tsenkov (Sofia, Bulgaria-General Vladimir Stoychev) all recorded two event wins apiece, while four other Eagles earned first-place finishes.
Since the inaugural meeting between the two squads back in the 2005-06 campaign, the Green and White have gone undefeated in 12 matchups. Most recently, Eastern downed the Warriors, 156-100, Jan. 21, 2017 in a tri-dual that included Tiffin. Then-sophomores Tom Gillis (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Citadel) and Tyson led the Eagles with two event wins each, while eight other Eagles notched a first-place finish. Gillis dominated on the springboard taking first in the 1- and 3-meter dives with scores of 317.45 and 328, respectively. Tyson shined in the sprinting events, winning the 50 free with a time of 21.47 before taking the 100 free at 46.21.
Action inside WSU Natatorium is slated to begin at 1 p.m. with live results available on the MeetMobile app.
