EMU Men's Cross Country Heads to Titan Invite

The Eagles will look to build off of last week's performance at the Michigan Open
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team heads to the Titan Invitational Saturday, Sept. 9, in Northville, Mich. This marks the fourth consecutive season the Eagles will participate in the event.
Last weekend's season opener saw nine freshmen receive their first experience running at the collegiate level. Freshman Zachary Young (Marion, Ill - Marion) paced the Eagles during the event, finishing 15th in 16:31.3. The Titan Invitational will serve as another chance for some of the underclassmen to gain experience early in their careers.
"The Detroit Titan Invite is another opportunity for some of our freshmen and middle distance runners to gain competitive collegiate cross country experience as well as an opportunity to work on their endurance for future development," said Head Coach John Goodridge. "The 4 mile course is challenging and Coach Murray creates a nice atmosphere for their annual event."
Last season, EMU finished second place with a 83 total points. Austin Sargent led the way for EMU, placing 12th with a time of 21:25.8. The team finished with five representatives in the top 25, including David Saporito (18th), Morgan O'Flahrity (20th), Nick McFarland (22nd), and sophomore Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich. - Pinckney) (23rd). Out of the seven who competed for the Green and White, only Wicker and redshirt senior Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich. - Owosso) are on this year's roster.
The annual invite, which is hosted by the University of Detroit Mercy, is in its 31st year. The competition is slated to begin at 11:45 a.m. at Cass Benton Park.
