CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team shaved three strokes off its opening round total to move up the leaderboard at the Golfweek Conference Challenge Monday, Sept. 18. The Eagles carded a day two score of 291 to climb six spots into a tie with Lipscomb University headed into Tuesday's final round at the par 72, 7,086-yard Cedar Rapids Country Club course.
Overall, EMU has a cumulative total of 585 (294-291) in the 15-team field. North Carolina State University continues to hold down the top-spot with a 560 (274-286) followed by the University of Iowa at 565 (283-282).
Individually, junior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) leads the Eagles with a two-round score of three-under par 141 in a tie for ninth. Breault posted a four-under 68 on Monday, which is tied for the second-lowest round of his career. The Hartland, Mich. product has found second rounds to be to his liking, as he also a 66 at the GCU Invitational, March 17-18, 2017, and a 68 at the EKU Intercollegiate, Sept. 17-18, 2016.
Freshman Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) is tied for 33rd with a 147 (71-76), while senior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) is just one shot back at 148 (73-75) in 38th. Sophomore Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) added a 72 for a two-day score of 152 (77-75), while senior Tyler Lewis (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon-Mott CC) rounded out the lineup with a 154 (81-73) in 73rd-place.
