Women's Cross Country Heads to the Home of Country Music For Next Meet

The trip will serve as the second-consecutive year the Eagles take part in the meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team competes in its first out-of-state meet this season, as it heads to Nashville, Tenn. for the Commodore Classic, Saturday, Sept. 16. The Eagles will look to accomplish results similar to last year's performance - a first-place finish with 68 total points.
"We hope to take a big step forward this weekend," said Head Coach Sue Parks. "We performed very well in this meet last year so we have a good feeling about this race and the course. There will be great competition and we hope to mix it up with the top teams and show improvement over last weekend. Our biggest goal is to make some good progress in this meet before we have a two week training break going into our next race."
Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) paced the Green and White in 2016's Commodore Classic, placing third with a time of 17:02.9, which also stands as the eighth-best finish all-time at the course. Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) also etched in a spot within the meet's top-25 all-time performances, finishing ninth in 2016 with a time of 17:17. 4.
Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-Sportschool KA2), Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83), and Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) also put together strong performances, each cracking the top-25 at 14th, 18th and 24th, respectively.
This year, the field features 18 women's teams who will be competing in the 5K course. The pool of teams includes MAC-opponent, Miami, as well as members of the Great Lakes Region, Ohio State and Butler. Another notable is No. 15 Missouri, the only program in the group currently ranked higher than the Eagles.
The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at Percy Warner Park. A link to the live results can be found here.
