It marks the second weekly award of Williams' career
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Following a pair of shutout victories, Eastern Michigan University junior goalkeeper Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) garnered Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sept. 10, the league office announced Wednesday, Sept. 13. It marks the second time Williams has reeled in the weekly accolade in her career.
Williams paced the Green and White defense over the weekend, Sept. 8-10, leading the Eagles to 1-nil wins against Youngstown State and Oakland. She totaled eight saves on 18 shots faced and did not yield a goal in more than 185 minutes in between the posts.
In EMU's first match of the weekend, Williams held off a talented Youngstown State attack en route to her first shutout of the season. The Kansas City, Mo. native followed the three-save blanking up with another clean sheet, this time making five saves to fuel Eastern to 1-nil win over Oakland. The victory marked EMU's first win over OU since the 1996 season. Additionally, Williams became the first keeper to turn in consecutive shutouts multiple times in their career since Megan McCabe did so in 2014.
Eastern Michigan closes out a three-game homestand against Utah State, Sept. 15. Kickoff at Scicluna Field is slated for 5 p.m.
