AS Roma Trains at EMU on Scicluna Field

AS Roma takes on Paris Saint-Germain at Comerica Park Wednesday night

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Before kicking off its tour of the United States, Italy's AS Roma, a Serie A soccer club trained at Eastern Michigan University's Scicluna Field over a three-day span, July 16-19, in preparation of a midweek match against Paris Saint-Germain at Comerica Park. AS Roma's visit to Scicluna Field marks the second time in the past three years the Eagles' pitch has been a training site for a professional team, having previously hosted Real Madrid in the summer of 2014.
A collective effort from the EMU women's soccer coaching staff and players, as well as EMU's facility, equipment, and media relations staff, allowed Eastern to host a total of six public training sessions on the Eagles' home pitch.
"It was fascinating being able to witness the best of the best training here on our own field," junior Mikayla Cupp said. "Having them train on our field just a month before we start our season was a great experience and something that inspired the whole team. Being in the presence of such high level players and seeing their finesse and charisma on the ball definitely gives us even more motivation and determination to push ourselves to the next level."
In addition to the excitement of the EMU soccer players, the coaching staff was thrilled about the opportunity as well. It was a chance for the Eagles' staff to learn from professional players and coaches as well.
"I'm speechless to be honest, seeing these guys on our pitch. For the team to be out here and see them play at this pace and their intensity, this is what soccer dreams are made of," noted EMU Head Soccer Coach Scott Hall.
AS Roma's first game of its US Tour is slated for Wednesday night, July 19, at Comerica Park, the home of the Detroit Tigers.
