BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) tied for eighth and helped the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team to a fourth-place finish Sunday, April 9, at the IU Invitational on the par 72, 5,884-yard Indiana University Golf Course. Beck, who turned in her second top-10 performance of the season, posted a 225 (77-72-76) to finish 11-stokes behind the Hoosiers' Alix Kong at two-under 214 (70-73-71).
As a team, the Eagles finished with a two-day total of 917 (319-300-298). EMU's final round tally of 298 was the third-best of any of the 10 teams playing. Indiana shot the lowest round of the day to propel themselves to the title with a total of 884 (292-297-295). Toledo finished as the runner up (899) while Western Michigan (901), EMU (917) and Illinois State (930) rounded out the top five.
Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and sophomore Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) tied for 13th with a 54-hole mark of 227. Murphy finished with a 74 while Guilleux equaled her career-low with a final round 71. Freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) added a 238 (85-76-77) in a tie for 31st.
Eastern Michigan has one week off before traveling to Silver Lake, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 21-23, at Silver Lake Country Club.
